How Private Jet Charter Quotes Work

A private jet charter quote starts with the aircraft category and the flight time. A light jet runs about $3,800 to $5,800 per hour, a midsize $5,200 to $7,800, and a heavy $9,500 to $14,500. Here is how those numbers become a final price.

How quotes are built

Every quote starts with the route and the aircraft. We take the flight distance, add the standard taxi and climb allowance, and multiply by the operator's hourly rate. A light jet on New York to Miami, 949 nautical miles, prices out around $10,000 to $15,000 at a light jet's 2h 37m block time. The same route in a heavy jet costs more per hour but adds cabin space and baggage capacity.

The hourly figures you see are estimates, not a rate card. Operators set their own prices based on aircraft availability, crew positioning, and demand. A one-way flight with an empty return leg costs more than a round trip that keeps the aircraft on the ground with you. We show you both when they apply.

Who actually operates the flight

We are a broker, not an operator. The aircraft you fly is provided by an independent company that holds an FAA Part 135 operating certificate. That operator has operational control of the flight: its pilots, its maintenance program, its dispatch, and its insurance. We arrange the trip and negotiate the price, but the operator is the one flying the aircraft.

This distinction matters when you compare quotes. Two brokers may quote the same aircraft at different prices because of how they source it. Ask who the operator is and confirm the certificate before you book.

What we check before a flight

Before we send a quote, we confirm the operator's certificate is active and in good standing. We check that the insurance coverage meets the minimums required for the aircraft and passenger count. We review third-party safety audit reports where they exist, and we look at crew duty limits to make sure the schedule is legal and realistic.

For high-altitude airports, we also look at density altitude. Centennial Airport near Denver sits at 5,885 feet, with a peak density altitude of 9,600 feet at 115F. That affects takeoff performance and may limit payload or require a different aircraft. A quote that ignores it is not a quote you can use.

How we are paid

We are paid a broker fee that is included in the price you see. The operator is paid separately for the flight. You do not pay us a separate consultation charge for a quote, and you are not obligated to book by requesting one.

Because the fee is built into the quote, the number you compare is the number you pay, subject to standard items like de-icing, crew overnight, and any changes you request after booking. We list those separately so you can see what moves the total.

Inquiries

What does a private jet charter cost per hour?

Hourly rates vary by category. Turboprops run about $2,200 to $3,500 per hour, light jets $3,800 to $5,800, midsize $5,200 to $7,800, super-midsize $7,200 to $10,000, and heavy jets $9,500 to $14,500. These are estimates before taxes and fees, and the final quote depends on the route, aircraft, and date.

Is a broker the same as the operator?

No. A broker arranges the flight and negotiates the price. The operator holds the FAA Part 135 certificate and has operational control, meaning its pilots and maintenance program are responsible for the flight. We disclose the operator for every quote so you can verify the certificate and insurance yourself.

Why does density altitude matter for my quote?

High-altitude airports reduce aircraft performance on warm days. Phoenix Deer Valley sits at 1,478 feet, but its peak density altitude reaches 5,400 feet at 115F. That can limit how much fuel or payload an aircraft can carry. We factor it in so the aircraft quoted can actually make the trip with your group and bags.
